Olly Operating on a short 'The Cat's House' 2024
Above is me , grinning , as I line up a shot on a short film in December 2024. In my element , looking down the viewfinder and telling a story.
I was born and raised in London, I've always been more on the 'artistic' side, meaning I was hopeless at maths and science, and always spent my time in the Design workshops or the art block. Long before my committed relationship with moving image, I did an art foundation at UCA Epsom where I specialised in Fine art. I found a love for screen printing and 35mm photography. I became hooked on the thrill of getting my negs back and the rich quality of the images. I was insatiable , which led me on to experimenting with moving image. I quickly realised this was my thing. I began filming friend's music events on the side and making fine art videos of installations and social experiments. A year on, I went to do my BA at UWE Bristol, where I studied filmmaking. After graduating I began getting work in the lighting department in Film and TV, where I have been the last 3 years. I've had the privilege to learn from some amazing gaffers and DoPs and got to be on lots of great shoots.
On the side, I've managed to stay consistently shooting over the last 2.5 years. I've ramped up the level and the amount of projects I'm shooting and want to continue to do so. I know I can bring a high quality and a unique perspective of work to a project, whatever the requirements may be. I hope my previous work which you can find on my page does the talking.
If you are reading this and you're thinking about using me for a project ! Don't hesitate to contact me and we can grab a coffee or chat more over the phone.
Thank you!
